Written & directed by Adam Townley and Simon Atkinson
Genre: Romance

Rating: ★★★★☆

Logline: Two quirky office workers find a creative way of expressing their feelings towards each other.

An impressive short. And another one without dialogue! Just shows you, less is more. This is a kind of no thrills effort – just two characters, mostly static shots, one location, no special effects etc, and it works. It is as simplistic in its structure and composition as it is in story. A shy couple, Lee Ingleby and Charity Wakefield, use post-it notes to construct sweetheart messages to each other in ever increasingly creative ways. Puts us all to shame. The most creative I’ve been at work recently has been the festive pair of tits I managed to construe out of Xmas decorations. (Couldn’t figure out how to do a giant nob you see)

And that’s it really. The film is accompanied by a recorder and xylophone soundtrack emphasizing the childlike imagination the pair share. Naturally the singleton that I am was hoping their boss would turn up at some point and fire them for time wasting and squandering valuable resources but it all ends very sweetly and it probably means a happily ever after. (Wonder if she’ll use a post-it note to tell him she wants a divorce?) Very nicely done, nothing more to say than that.

Best Bit: The ‘Make sure that stationary you take is solely for work purposes’ poster outside the cupboard she’s just raided.

Worst Bit: The first scene where they mimic each other is too long but that’s me clutching at straws.

Final thought: Yeah, like any post-it note I’ve ever used stays stuck that long.
