Wrong Side Of The Bed ★★★★☆

Review of 'Wrong Side Of The Bed' which can be found here at Short Film Pedia.

Length: 01:31
Written by Mark Ferries and directed by Daniel Lucchesi
Genre: Comedy
Date: 2006
Rating: ★★★

Logline: A guys start to the day is split into two parallel universes. One good, one bad.

This is a clever idea showing how, as the title suggests, getting out of the wrong side of bed can really affect your day. Shown in split screen, which in itself can cause problems, we get the good version of the morning and the bad. Of course the trouble with split screen is where to look. Thankfully scenes are short and mostly with minimal action so as not to divert our eyes from missing any major points. Robert Kennedy plays the duo roles and manages it fine. There's no dialogue in it any ways.

Although the idea is a good one, the production was poorly executed in parts. Even with the brightness on my monitor turned up full but shots were still hard to see having been badly rigged up with too much shadow and not enough light. Set design also failed with large drab areas of white walls and sparse decor. Loved the hand written number plate on the front door there. Not to mention the boarded up windows. Very cheery. I did like the way that the two opposing realities mirrored each other and provided satisfying symmetry.

There is one major plot flaw which is the fact that the two universes suddenly cross over and the guy having the bad day can suddenly see the guy having the good. Completely forgivable though as it adds the nice twist and comic conclusion to the film.

Best Bit: The pick pockets niffty moves.

Worst Bit: Crappy lighting on internal shots makes it difficult to see.

Final thought: Don't feel too bad for this guy. He does litter and chucks away a perfectly fine apple after two bites. Wasteful git.
